The Sungri 415 (4.15) was introduced in April 1961. The 15th of April was the birthday of Kim Il Sung, hence the name.

The 4×2 four-door car was in fact a license built Russian GAZ 69. Empty weight 1525kg, developing 55hp. The prototype was made by the Tokchon Auto Works, which was later called Sungri Works.

In 1962, there was a version with the headlamps within the fender.

In 1963, a postage stamp appeared from another updated version.

A year before, there was a publication with a similar (?) car.

The next prototype was shown in 1968, probably at the Three Revolutions Exhibition.

Production of the Korean version of the GAZ 69 took not place at Sungri in Tokchon, but the vehicles were made by the Pyongsang Auto Works, which was also named the March 16 Plant, in Pyongsang.
The new name for the car was Kaengsaeng 68 (“Self Reliance”), the production started in 1968.

The four-door 4×2 version, based on the GAZ69A, was named Kaengsaeng 68KA.

And a two-door version, Kaengsaeng 68NA.

Pyongsang also made a small 4×2 pickup, based on the Kaengsaeng 68.

In 1982 two prototypes of a successor were shown.

And the second prototype.

Soon after, the production version of the Kaengsaeng 85 appeared. There is a version with a steel roof and one with a soft top. There are square or round headlights. Split front windows and one-piece front windows. Seen as 4×2 and as 4×4.

In 1997 there was a proposal for new models, they never came.

In 2011, a stamp appeared with a customized version of the Russian UAZ469 for Kim Jong-il.

In 2013 at the Spring International Trade Fair North Korea surprised with a long range of rebadged Chinese vehicles. The BAW (Beijing Auto Works) Zhanqi BJ2024 (2.0L) was modified and named Pyonghwa Ppokkugi 2008.

De BAW Zhanqi BJ2032 crew cab pickup (with hard cover) was rebadged as Pyonghwa Ssangma 0108.

The military version of the Ppeokkugi 2008 was named Chonsung 60.
